Frequent asked questions

Q.What if I haven’t run a 5k before?

A.This is a great time to learn.  Start a program today…gear up and we’ll see you at the run!  If you still don’t think you can make it, we have a 2 Mile health walk which is a great way to spend the day too!

Q.Who benefits from the Great Pumpkin Classic?

A.Financial support from the 5k race supports the Trumbull High School scholarship program which gives scholarships directly to the students at Trumbull High School.  The proceeds also support the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce which works to brings together local businesses with the Trumbull Community.  The 2 Mile Health walk proceeds support the Trumbull Community Women and their efforts in Trumbull.  Most noatbly, procees provide local scholarships to students.  The Kid’s Fun run proceeds provide much needed funding for the Trumbull PTSA to provide opportunities for students and Teachers in town.  Thank you for your support!

Q.Can I get a refund?

A.The Great Pumpkin Classic is a charity event. We encourage our participants to join us at the event and appreciate the suppoort for all of our local charities.

Q.My shirt doesn’t fit. Can I exchange it for a different size?

A.If there are still shirts available during packet pickup, you are welcome to exchange the shirt in your race packet with one of the ones remaining. If we don’t have the size you are looking for, hold on to the one that doesn’t fit, and beginning on October 1, we will allow people to exchange shirts with the ones from the race packets that were never claimed.

Q.Can I run with my dog or a stroller?

A. We welcome runners of all ages, even if they are hitching a ride for the day! And, While we love dogs and animals of all kinds, dogs are not allowed on the courses as their leashes tend to get caught up in runner’s feet.

Q.Can a race packet by picked up by someone other than the runner?

A.Yes, but if you are the person picking up a packet for someone else, please be 100% sure they are aware of this and don’t show up later looking for their packet. Also, be sure that the packets don’t get switched.  We chip time, so your chip is YOUR CHIP.  This happens every year, without fail.

Q.Can I run with headphones?

A.Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, the top priority for our event. For this reason, the use of personal music devices during the running of the Great Pumpkin Classic is strongly discouraged. That said, people run with headphones all the time, and no one is going to physically stop you from doing so at the Pumpkin. If you do decide to run with headphones, please keep the volume low so you can hear what is going on around you. Be smart and be safe.
